ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) will present former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi before an accountability court as his 13-day physical remand expired on Thursday (today) in liquefied petroleum gas (LNG) scandal.

Khaqan Abbasi was taken under custody by NAB team while en-route on Thokar Niaz Baig road on July 18, over liquefied petroleum gas (LNG) scandal.

The former premier will be presented before the court of Judge Muhammad Bashir, where the extension in his physical remand will be sought.

The former prime minister is facing charges of corruption and awarding a LNG import contract at exorbitant rates in 2015, which caused big loss to the national exchequer. Sources said that he had granted a tender worth Rs220 bn to a firm in which he himself was a shareholder.

NAB sources said that Abbasi, in 2013, had awarded a LNG import and distribution contract to the Elengy Terminal in violation of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules and relevant laws.

Earlier on April 26, the names of former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, former finance minister Miftah Ismail and five others had been placed in exit control list in an inquiry into the LNG scandal.

The incident took place last week on April 5 in Qasba Gujrat area of Muzaffargarh, and the CCTV footage acquired from the oil company where the deceased security guard was deployed has brought the matter to light. KARACHI: Export Industry owners facing adversity as they are unable to deliver their export orders due to gas load shedding and low pressure in Karachi, ARY News reported on Monday. As per details, gas crises have intensified in several parts of the metropolis, as winter began which is causing hurdles for the domestic and industrial units. President Site Association Saleem Parekh has said they are facing huge lose due to gas load shedding and low pressure in the city. “Export session is being badly affected, we are unable to deliver orders as Christmas is right on the corner,” said Saleem Parekh. Meanwhile, spokesperson of the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has said gas pressure has dropped due to technical faults in the fields, efforts underway to resume supply at its full capacity, he added.
