LAHORE: Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim sworn in as the new chief justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday morning at Governor House here, ARY News reported.

Governor of Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar administered the oath of office to the new chief justice of the high court.

Justice Muhammad Anwarul Haq retired as the chief justice of the LHC after attaining the age of superannuation on Monday (yesterday).

Earlier, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar had recommended senior judge of LHC Sardar Muhammad Shamim Khan as the new Chief Justice of high court.

Sardar Muhammad Shamim Khan had taken oath as Judge of the high court on 19 February 2010.

A full court reference was held on Monday for chief justice, Mr. Justice Muhammad Anwarul Haq to pay tribute to the outgoing chief justice yesterday.

Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim speaking at the reference, lauded the services of Justice Anwarul Haq as the chief justice of the LHC.

LHC judges, Advocate General of Punjab Ahmad Awais, and federal and provincial law officers also spoke at the reference.
