ISLAMABAD: Advocate Naeem Bukhari is expected to be appointed as Attorney General of Pakistan by the federal government this week, citing sources, ARY News reported on Tuesday. Sources told ARY News that the federal government is mulling to change the attorney general of Pakistan and considering Naeem Bukhari for the key position. Prime Minister Imran Khan is willing to appoint the renowned lawyer for the top post while Naeem Bukhari had also already held a meeting with the premier. It is likely for another meeting to be held between PM Imran Khan and Naeem Bukhari Advocate on Tuesday (today) or Wednesday (tomorrow), sources added. ISLAMABAD: Former deputy speaker Qasim Suri has challenged his disqualification from the National Assembly seat in Supreme Court, ARY News reported on Tuesday. An election tribunal last Friday declared his victory from National Assembly seat NA-265 (Quetta-II) as null and void and ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold re-polling in the constituency. Advocate Naeem Bukhari filed a petition in the supreme court pleading to declare the decision of the election tribunal as void. The counsel said in the plea that irregularities in the electoral process could not be attributed to his client. The petition also requested for an early hearing of the matter on tomorrow (Wednesday). An election tribunal presided over by Justice Abdullah Baloch had ECP for re-election in the Quetta constituency. Balochistan National Party’s (BNP) Lashkari Raisani had challenged the victory of Suri, who contested the 2018 general election on a ticket of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP).

SUKKUR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) sought the court for an extension in remand of the Pakistan People’s Pary (PPP) central leader Khursheed Shah on Tuesday, ARY News reported. The accountability court conducted hearing of the case related to the arrest of Khursheed Shah here today. MARDAN: Four members of a family died in a roof collapse incident in Katlang tehsil of Mardan, ARY News reported on Tuesday. A man, his wife and two children were killed when the rooftop of their mud house caved in at Farash Colony in Katlang, rescue sources said. The roof of the house was collapsed in the night but people of the area remained unaware of the incident due to wind storm, local people said. The deceased were identified as Zakirullah, his wife and their two children three years old Abdul Samad and two years’ Sapna, rescue officials said. The emergency workers transferred bodies of deceased to Type D Katlang Hospital, officials said. In another incident in May this year in Takht Bai area near Mardan four people were died when a roof of a dilapidated house  collapsed. Sindh’s Environment Department has issued a notification to enforce the ban on the manufacture, sale, purchase and use of non-biodegradable plastic bags of all sizes. The government has enforced the law against the use of plastic bags and will take legal action against the violators. The special teams will monitor different markets and those found involved in any violation of the law will be prosecuted accordingly. Twitter on Monday said it is rolling out a filter that will hide away unwanted direct messages, providing a new tool to stymie abuse. Twitter users who receive direct messages from people they don’t follow on the platform will be able to have such missives automatically routed to a secondary folder. “Unwanted messages aren’t fun,” Twitter tweeted in August when it began testing the filter that let users keep them “out of sight, out of mind.” The filter is intended to also catch messages with spam or offensive content, tagging them accordingly so users can decide whether they want to open them. “We tested, and turns out filters help you cut through the noise to find gems,” Twitter said Monday in a tweet. “Who knew. Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has set September 30, 2019, as the deadline for the filing of the income tax returns. The taxation authority has announced that its field offices will remain open on Monday until 12:00 in midnight. Tax payers could also deposit their tax at the branches of the National Bank, which will go under the process on the same day. The FBR in a notification has directed all chief commissioners to coordinate with authorized branches of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) so that the tax collections could be shifted to the State Bank on the same day and they were counted in the tax receipts for the month of September. LAHORE: The judicial remand of former Lahore Development Authority (LDA) director general Ahad Cheema Monday, was extended for 10 days in a case pertaining to assets beyond known sources of income. Cheema was presented by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials before Lahore’s NAB court under strict security. The court by summoning more witnesses in the case adjourned the hearing till October 10. It may be noted that the court, so far has recorded statements of seven witnesses in the reference against the former DG LDA. According to anti-graft watchdog, Cheema possesses assets worth Rs600 million and had failed to satisfy the bureau regarding his sources of income. The properties owned by the ex-DG LDA allegedly include several plots in various housing schemes in Lahore and Islamabad, agricultural lands, flats and houses. SUKKUR: Swarms of locusts have destroyed crops on hundreds of acres in Saleh Pat area of Sukkur quoting local farmers, ARY News reported on Monday. Several swarms of locusts descended in the area and eat up standing cotton crop, vegetables and fodder for cattle in the area, local people complained. Local farmers staged protest against inaction of the provincial agriculture department with regard to the attacks of locusts swarms in the area. CHUNIAN: The police on Monday found remains of another child from Industrial area of Chunian, who was kidnapped and later killed,  ARY News reported. According to the police, the remains were found at the distance of half kilometer away, from last crime scene. “The remains might be of another child, who went missing from Chunian, earlier”, the police said. It may be noted that the number of killed children has jumped to five in the area in the month of September. Four children between eight to 12 years of age had gone missing in Chunian since June. KOHISTAN: A twelve-day special anti-polio campaign has begun in three districts of Kohistan on Monday (today). According to the provincial health department, more than 85,000 children below the age of five will be administered anti-polio drops during the campaign. Meanwhile, a three-day polio campaign will also begin today in Torghar district where about 40,000 children will be vaccinated during the campaign. ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday will visit earthquake-affected areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), ARY News reported. He will be warmly welcomed by Prime Minister AJK, Raja Farooq Haider and other government officials upon his arrival in Muzaffarabad. During his day-long visit, PM Khan will also visit District Divisional Headquarters Hospital to meet quake-affectees. The death toll has jumped to 40, with more than 500 injured so far as rescue activities are underway in the area. At least 6,000 houses were destroyed completely, while 7100 cattle farms have been damaged in the quake. The strong earthquake of 5.8-magnitude brought disasters to different parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
