MIANWALI: Six members of a family are feared dead after the car they were travelling in fell into a canal on Sunday. Seven people were travelling in the ill-fated car when it plunged into Lower Branch Canal Piplaan. ISLAMABAD: Export of kinno from Pakistan has commenced as an export target of 300,000 metric tons has been set for the current season which is expected to generate valuable foreign exchange of $19.5 million . Of the anticipated kinno production of 2.2 million tons, around 15-20 per cent would be exported. According to Waheed Ahmed, Patron-in-Chief All Pakistan Fruit & Vegetable Exporters, Importers & Merchants Association ( PFVA), keeping huge losses sustained by kinno exporters in Russian market during the previous season the export target for the current year has been kept 50,000 tons less than that of the last year. He said due to stiff competition in the Russian market, exporters had to export kinno to this international market at lower cost than its actual cost of shipments leading to huge financial losses of around $6 million in the previous kinno season. SHEIKHUPURA: Two suspected robbers were shot dead in a ‘shootout’ with policemen in a Sheikhupura neighbourhood on Sunday, ARY News reported. According to the local police, the robbers on a motorcycle opened fire at a police team. In the ensuing encounter, the suspected criminals were killed, they added. The police said the robbers were involved in Saturday’s murder of a policeman. Arms, a motorcycle and other things were seized from the killed robbers’ possession, they said. A day earlier, four suspected outlaws were shot dead in an alleged shootout with police personnel in Jalalpur Pirwala. The robbers were busy looting residents near Haji Bridge of the area. Upon being alerted to the criminals’ activities, a police team reached the spot. In the subsequent exchange of fire, four of the robbers were killed on the spot, while their accomplices escaped. RAWALPINDI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Rawalpindi has summoned Senate Deputy Chairman Saleem Mandviwalla for questioning in connection with its ongoing probe into multi-billion fake bank accounts scam. The corruption watch has asked the PPP leader to turn up for the purpose on Dec 9 (Monday). Mandviwalla will be quizzed about transactions between him and Aijaz Haroon who is in NAB custody over his alleged involvement in money laundering. CHOWK SARWAR SHAHEED: Four persons including a woman and a child were killed on Saturday in a road accident in Chowk Sarwar Shaheed, reported ARY News. According to rescue sources, the incident occurred near Hussain Shah bus stop, where a speeding passenger bus crushed a motorcycle and a rickshaw. As a result four persons lost their lives on the spot. Getting the information, rescue teams reached the spot and moved the bodies to the nearby medical facility for legal formalities.
